Practicum Log #16: Upward Bound & Video Recording
Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 1:00-5:00 PM
Our Upward Bound Students continued their research of their cuneiform tablets. Emily Thorpe and I made a Canva poster template for the students to upload pictures and put a little bit of description on their poster. Once it is finished, the library has a large poster printer for the students to use for their final presentation on their class. After working in the classroom, we took the students back to the working room for their journals. They stayed engaged and spent a lot of time drawing, crafting, taking pictures, and using the typewriter to add to their journals. We only had them for an hour today, so the time went by very quickly.
After the Upward Bound students left, Emily and I found a practice room to record the script for my primary sources video that I created. I recorded it first to figure out the process. I started out trying to use LogicPro, but the software wasn’t intuitive and was annoying me. I FaceTimed my husband for tech support, and he suggested that I just plug in the Library’s Yeti Nano microphone into my phone and do a voice recording. This solution worked perfectly, and I was able to practice by recording my voice first and then recording Emily’s voice for the final video. After recording, I spent time on adding all of the audio to the video project, and then I found some free background music on bensound.com. I’m happy with how the video turned out!
Full Schedule: l will be working 10:00-2:00 from May 28th to June 7th, M-F online. (The campus is undergoing some construction and all of the librarians are working from home.) Then, from June 10 - July 19th, I will be working 1:00-5:00 on campus at Southwestern University. I will more than likely finish by July 12th, but I'm adding a week for wiggle room. This should lead to 128 hours.
