Practicum Log #26: Last Shift at Southwestern
Tuesday, July 16, 2024 from 1:00-5:00 PM
Today, I finished my last shift at Southwestern University for my practicum. I will complete one more day at Cedar Park Public Library on Thursday as a shadow day that my supervisor, Emily Thorpe, suggested for a glimpse into how other libraries work. Today, was quite a slow shift, which was totally fine. I had plenty of time to reflect on my time here, say goodbye to the staff members I met and worked with, and I spent time organizing all of my files and folders to make sure Katherine and Emily had access to them for instruction in the fall. Megan brought me a beautiful watercolor print of one of the buildings on campus, which was lovely. The free time in this shift also gave me more time to work on my practicum log.
The library was a little more lively today, signs of school starting back in a couple of weeks. The Writing Lab supervisor came back, and other faculty members and staff members came to meet with the new library director or run errands. The distinctive collections team was still working on moving everything back to where it needed to go. Overall, I have loved my time at Southwestern. The staff members all work together as a team, and they are all kind and helpful to one another. They have all been generous with their time and with answering all of my questions.
Full Schedule: l will be working 10:00-2:00 from May 28th to June 7th, M-F online. (The campus is undergoing some construction and all of the librarians are working from home.)
Then, from June 10 - July 19th, I will be working 1:00-5:00 on campus at Southwestern University. I will more than likely finish by July 12th, but I'm adding a week for wiggle room. This should lead to 128 hours.
