Practicum Log #8: Bob Ross Party Invitation
This is the layout of a Bob Ross Birthday Party event that the library will host on October 29th. The library staff created a list of low cost community outreach events that would be fun and engaging but inexpensive on the budget and low maintenance on the staff. The Bob Ross party will have a mini canvas painting station and a cookie decoration station set up for students to come and go throughout the day. I made flyers for this event and for another event “Paws and Pages.”

My supervisor, Emily Thorpe, asked me to work from home again today, and I had a list of social events that I could use to create event flyers. I enjoyed making flyers for two upcoming events. Paws and Pages will be a recurring monthly event where the library partners with the Williamson County Animal Shelter. Students will be able to hang out with kittens and cats up for adoption and read to them. This will also open up opportunity for community members to visit campus and possibly adopt a new pet. The staff is always looking for ways to engage the community and the student body with the library, so that they see the library as a welcoming place of learning and not a place that is scary or intimidating.
Additionally, the staff wanted to create some fun activities for students that would be low cost but also fun, allowing students to interact with the library in a way that gets them comfortable with the space. The Bob Ross Birthday Party is an idea that plays on a similar event from the year before. The students liked having an art station last year, so this year they are framing it as a birthday party for Bob Ross. Students will be able to come and paint a mini canvas and decorate a birthday cookie. I created flyers for both events, making two options for the Bob Ross Party. I also made matching Instagram graphics to use on the library’s social media page.
Full Schedule: l will be working 10:00-2:00 from May 28th to June 7th, M-F online. (The campus is undergoing some construction and all of the librarians are working from home.)
Then, from June 10 - July 19th, I will be working 1:00-5:00 on campus at Southwestern University. I will more than likely finish by July 12th, but I'm adding a week for wiggle room. This should lead to 128 hours.
