Practicum Log #3: LibGuides Continued
This is where I spent most of my time today. I designed banners in Canva, uploaded them to the LibApps Image Manager, and then added them to the LibApps page for each course. I enjoy this kind of design work in the back end, and then I worked on adding resources for students.
Wednesday, May 29th from 11:00 - 2:00 and 2:30-3:30
I continued my work with LibGuides for Smith Library Center by working online at home while the campus undergoes electrical and water repairs. I checked in with my supervisor, Emily Thorpe, to make sure I completed what I needed to complete for the day. I completed two LibGuides for the First Year Seminar series — Legends, Myths, and Folktales in East Asia and As Seen on Netflix: Streaming Global Culture. My work involved designing banners and logos in Canva relevant to the courses, uploading them to the LibApps site, making templates from previous courses to keep consistent design, and finding sources to include in the LibGuides.
Today, I figured out how to embed YouTube videos into the site, which adds to accessibility for the LibGuides. I also worked on finding subject keywords from WorldCat to make sure the students had shortcuts for research if needed. I also spent time finding databases that would be helpful for each course, and I combed through internet sources to find quality resources from there. I specifically used techniques I learned from my 5600 class in evaluating resources, so I was glad I could use my library degree today!
Full Schedule: l will be working 10:00-2:00 from May 28th to June 7th, M-F online. (The campus is undergoing some construction right now and all of the librarians are working from home.)
Then, from June 10 - July 19th, I will be working 1:00-5:00 on campus at Southwestern University. I will more than likely finish by July 12th, but I'm adding a week for wiggle room. This should lead to 128 hours.
